Leslie is a contemporary artist and designer living and working in St. Louis, Missouri.  She received her BFA in painting and fibers from Truman State University and her Master of Science in Textile Design from Philadelphia University.  Her current painting series examines climate grief and explores the landscape as documented history and as an introspective look into a future affected by climate change.

“Nature has been my constant source of enjoyment, creative inspiration, and peace. Growing up I spent most of my time outdoors and seeking out solitary areas I could call my own sacred spaces, such as a small grove of trees or a clearing of grass, to read or daydream. As we enter the Anthropocene I attempt to process the consequences of our actions and the ways our world is quickly transforming.”

The starting point typically begins with sketches and collage, followed by experiments in combining various terrains and patterns together. Specific areas throughout the composition are purposely placed upside down and the combined landscapes are layered like strata as a way to visualize time and history. Though painting is the central focus of Song's current work she also creates drawings, surface designs, and fiber art.
